Market Donates to Community

Our outreach efforts, supported by the profits of the Family Market, continue to receive recognition from the local charities we support.
Our Primary Ministries

Our Ministries really define who we are and they provide the focus of parish life.  At present we have the following ministries in which, as a congregation, we are actively engaged.  Click on each ministry to find out more about that work.
  • Worship focuses on the religious aspects of our Anglican church experience
  • Pastoral Care is aimed at keeping in touch with those who can't always come to church

  • Music Ministry ensures that our worship is augmented with the joy of music - instrumental as well as vocal
  • Church School provides the young family members with both learning and fun as part of their worship.
  • Chancel Guild supports our worship by ensuring the appropriate Sunday service needs are provided
  • Family Market is part of our Outreach program providing low cost clothing and other items for the community
  • Soup & Sandwich is also part of our Outreach work and operates a lunch kitchen for those in the community who cannot always afford a hot meal.
  • Social Committee focuses on the family involvement in the church in a non-religious atmosphere.
  • St. John's Cemetery is a registered Ontario cemetery offering burial services to the community (both Anglican and non-parishioners).
  • Property Committee ensures the ongoing viability of our church buildings and the rectory.
Family Market

As part of our Outreach program, we endeavour to help our community members who may have economic problems by accepting donations of clothing, etc. and then offering them for sale at a very low cost in our twice-weekly Family Market normally open every second Thursday 12 - 1:30 & every Saturday 9:30 - 12:30.  (NB.During the summer the Market is just open Saturday).

Using our church basement, the Market has become very popular.  Its inventory consists of donated clothing, toys, books and various household items.  Our normal sales are based on prices at $7 for a plastic bag stuffed to the handles, or $1 for one item, $4 for coats with toys and miscellaneous items priced separately. Occasionally we have a $10 per garbage bag sale

We have free raffles at Valentines Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas with crafts and grab bags for the children in the library.   The Book Room/Library is still a great success offering all the books for free and videos, games and puzzles at a reasonable price. It has become somewhat of a lending library with customers bringing books back after reading them.

Excess clothing or that not suitable for resale is passed on to other charitable groups.  All profits from the sale go towards the church and its Outreach program including grocery certificates for needy families or other emergencies as they happen.  Lately our Outreach donations went to the Eat Well to Excel program at the Tottenham Public School, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Simcoe Manor, Canadian Cancer Society (through the Relay for Life), My Sisters Place, The Tottenham Food Bank, The Christmas Hampers, Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation, Tottenham Fire Department, New Tecumseth Public Library (for the Tottenham Branch), Plan Canada – we have two children that we sponsor - and ongoing support to the Heart and Stroke Foundation for a defibrillator unit to be used in Tottenham.

The coffee pot is always on, and sometimes we have cookies, everyone is welcome, come on down, have a look around and see what is going on!  All is good at the Market!!

Please e-mail the Family Market or call 905 936 2491 if you would like more information.
